In their daily lives, persons with disabilities face widespread discrimination, prejudice and barriers to social inclusion, in addition to a range of personal challenges. A lack of equitable access to places, education, employment and social programs limits their full enjoyment of human rights. To create a more inclusive world, persons with disabilities have advocated to be recognized as individuals with inherent dignity who have the same rights as everyone else.

Boaz Muhumuza was a grassroots advocate for persons with disabilities in Uganda until his death in 2017. Blind since childhood, Muhumuza became a human rights lawyer and worked to create a more accessible society, which he believed would improve life for all Ugandans.
